The government has allowed the production and sale of "Euro-3" gasoline until December 31, 2026. According to URA.RU, the Ministry of Energy explained the decision by the need to increase fuel supplies to the domestic market. For car owners, this means the appearance of fuel with increased sulfur content at gas stations.

The key difference from "Euro-5" is the mass fraction of sulfur: 150 mg/kg versus 10 mg/kg. The aromatic content is also higher – up to 42% instead of 35%.

Experts interviewed by the publication reassure that there will be no catastrophe for engines. "Euro-5" and "Euro-6" standard engines will calmly digest such fuel; the difference in sulfur is measured in millionths. However, the catalytic converter in cars manufactured after 2005–2008 may have a reduced lifespan.

"Euro-3" gasoline is suitable for old VAZ, GAZ, UAZ vehicles with carburetor or early injection engines, foreign cars before 2000 without catalytic converters and lambda sensors, as well as motorcycles, generators, and special equipment. It is not recommended to use it in modern turbocharged direct injection engines and diesels with particulate filters.

The return to the old standard is a temporary measure against the backdrop of a stable fuel market, according to Deputy Prime Minister Novak.
