The first Russian unmanned amphibious vehicle "Meridian" has undergone water trials

TsAGI is involved in the development

The Center for Autonomous Robotic Systems (CARS) has completed trials of a dynamically similar model of the unmanned amphibious vehicle "Meridian" in open water. This was announced by Ekaterina Zgirovskaya, the official representative of the center.

The tests were conducted using a catapult at an accredited center. Specialists evaluated water landing, dynamics of splashdown, and directional stability during movement.

Overloads, run length, and the nature of water contact were measured. According to the conclusion, the apparatus showed stability in all planing modes at any center of gravity position.

The obtained data confirmed previous laboratory tests. Water runs were performed without loss of stability. The results will allow for design refinement before assembling a full-size prototype. An experimental flight model is already being manufactured taking into account the recommendations of TsAGI specialists.

"Meridian" is the only unmanned amphibious aircraft system in Russia. The apparatus will be able to transport up to 700 kg of cargo to the Arctic, the Far East, and other hard-to-reach regions. It is also designed for environmental monitoring and observation of water and ice surfaces.
