All vessels belonging to GMK "Norilsky Nickel" (Nornickel brand) have been equipped with Ice Vision radar indicators for ice conditions monitoring with RDR (Radar Dead Reckoning) software modules. The equipment was developed by "Marine Computer Systems" (MKS) for the Arctic fleet. This was reported by the MKS press service.
The RDR module determines the vessel's location in the absence of a GPS/GLONASS signal or its suppression (spoofing) by comparing radar images taken by the ship's radar with radar images from a database. The data is displayed on the Ice Vision radar indicator screen.
The navigation equipment is approved for use on vessels in accordance with the requirements of the Polar Code. It is designed for high-quality visualization of ice conditions and ensuring navigation safety in the freezing waters of the Arctic.
GMK "Norilsky Nickel" is the only Russian company to equip its fleet with radar indicators with RDR modules. The world's largest palladium producer owns 7 Arc7 ice-class vessels (6 container ships, 1 tanker) and the port icebreaker "Dudinka" for operation in Arctic conditions.
