Number of new T-72B3M tanks in service with Russia named

Hundreds of modernized combat vehicles are in the arsenal

As of 2026, the Russian Armed Forces have at least 470 main battle tanks T-72B3/B3M. This assessment, based on data from foreign sources, was provided by the publication "Tekhnosfera Rossiya".

The Marine Corps of the Navy abroad has at least 30 T-72B3M tanks in service. Researchers also counted about 1000 T-72 versions before modern deep modernization.

Outside of Russia, foreign authors counted 74 T-72 tanks without specifying modifications – all at a base in Armenia.

Earlier it became known that Uralvagonzavod is developing a new generation tank with elements of robotization and artificial intelligence.

Rostec stated that the T-90M would be the last tank of the current generation. "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" explained in a large article which combat vehicle will replace the "Proryv" in the coming decades.
