A new telephone fraud scheme has emerged in Russia, said State Duma deputy Kaplan Panesh. Criminals call citizens and introduce themselves as employees offering contract service.
The call begins with a phrase stating that the person allegedly previously expressed interest in contract service. Then, the fraudsters clarify details and ask for an SMS code for "identity verification." After gaining access to banking applications, they take out loans and steal money.
The scheme targets patriotically-minded citizens who are indeed considering signing a contract. The deputy warned: any unsolicited call on this topic is a scam. No official structures recruit in this manner. If you are asked for a code, hang up and check your accounts.
