To ride a rented buggy or ATV, separate licenses for self-propelled vehicles may no longer be needed. The State Duma adopted in the second and third readings a bill that allows drivers with category B, C or D licenses to operate such vehicles. However, the innovation only applies to rented vehicles.
This refers to off-road vehicles of category AII. This includes vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons with no more than eight passenger seats. This category includes, in particular, buggies and ATVs.
Drivers over 19 years old will be able to get behind the wheel of such a vehicle. This will require a category B, C or D license, and the driving experience must be at least one year.
Before the trip, the owner or the company renting out the vehicle is obliged to conduct an instruction for the driver. The government will also be able to separately establish rules for concluding and executing rental agreements for such equipment.
The bill was prepared by senators Andrey Kutepov and Alexey Sinitsyn. Amendments are being made to the federal laws "On self-propelled machines and other types of equipment" and "On road safety".
