Almost seven out of ten cars sold in Russia in April were produced domestically. The share of domestic cars in the market reached 67% — 11 percentage points more than a year ago. At the same time, sales of Russian-made cars increased by a third compared to April 2025. These figures were provided by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Anton Alikhanov.
According to him, Russian car manufacturers are rapidly expanding their model ranges, so locally produced cars continue to strengthen their positions in the domestic market. This simultaneously supports the recovery of the entire Russian automotive market.
Alikhanov also spoke about the relaunch of enterprises previously abandoned by foreign investors. By the end of last year, over 80% of such production sites had resumed operations. Currently, authorities are systematically working to launch the remaining plants.
One of the latest examples is the former Toyota plant in Shushary, where serial production of premium-class Senat cars has already begun. According to the minister, the relaunch of enterprises has saved about 30,000 jobs.
In addition, the country has preserved an industrial base capable of producing about 1.6 million cars per year. Alikhanov noted that Russian enterprises are now ready to meet customer needs in almost all market segments.
This includes cars of various classes — from affordable models to "premium" and "luxury" category vehicles, as well as from compact urban electric vehicles to spacious minivans for long family trips.
