The modernized Mi-35P transport-combat helicopter, known as the "Phoenix" version, has been spotted for the first time in the Guinean Air Force. The appearance of this machine came as a surprise, as no official reports on the delivery of this modification to the country had been published previously.
This refers to a deeply updated version of the well-known Mi-24, which retains the basic protected design and overall layout, but with a significantly redesigned onboard complex.
The "Phoenix" variant received modern control electronics and sighting systems, including an optoelectronic module with a thermal imager, a television channel, and a laser rangefinder, which significantly expands the capabilities for searching and engaging targets at any time of day.
Particular attention in the modernization was paid to improving the accuracy of weapon application and operation in difficult conditions, including night operations. According to the stated characteristics, the surveillance system allows reliable tracking of targets at a significant distance, and the updated avionics provide more flexible control of combat modes.
The power plant is based on TV3-117VMA engines, developed with the participation of ODK-Klimov, which ensures the preservation of high thrust and platform reliability.
The helicopter is capable of using a wide range of weapons – from unguided rockets to guided anti-tank systems, making it a versatile means of supporting ground operations.
At the same time, the machine's external appearance has changed minimally, which preserves the recognizability of the Mi-24 family, but it is the internal modernization that has become the key difference of the new version.
