The new PD-8 aircraft engine has officially received a type certificate. The unit is now ready for serial production and flights on the fully import-substituted SJ-100, announced the United Engine Corporation.
The PD-8 was created as a replacement for the French-Russian SaM146, but eventually, the project evolved into a full-fledged domestic platform with new materials, a hot section, and digital control systems.
The twin-spool turbofan engine develops thrust up to 8 tons at takeoff and uses 25 modern technologies, including 17 completely new solutions for the Russian industry.
During testing, the engine operated for more than 6500 hours. It was tested in low-temperature conditions, on a wet runway, and in abnormal modes. The PD-8 is also being prepared for the Be-200 amphibious aircraft.
ODK head Alexander Grachev explained that technologies that did not exist in Russia before were created for the PD-8. Thanks to this, the specific fuel consumption of the power plant was reduced.
