The fourth division of the Russian S-400 "Triumf" anti-aircraft missile system has been delivered to India. The air defense systems arrived by ship and will soon take up positions in the designated area, ANI reports. The delivery of the fifth, and final, division under the 2018 contract is expected within a few months. The deal amounted to $5.43 billion.

In India, Russian SAM systems were named "Sudarshan Chakra," which translates from Sanskrit as "rotating fiery disc." In May 2025, the systems were first used in real combat during a swift conflict with Pakistan – Operation "Sindhur." According to Indian media, the S-400s repelled all missile strikes on the country's territory and shot down a Pakistani airborne early warning aircraft at a distance of 300 kilometers.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the air defense system, reinforced by the S-400, a decisive force in that operation. He later visited Adampur Air Force Base in the border state of Punjab and was photographed against the backdrop of the Russian complex's launcher.

The high effectiveness of Russian anti-aircraft weapons, demonstrated in combat conditions, prompted New Delhi to make new purchases. India's Defence Acquisition Council approved the acquisition of five more S-400 divisions from Russia. In addition, Indian authorities are considering purchasing S-500 "Prometey" anti-aircraft systems, designed to defeat any aerospace attack assets.
