Su-30SM forced to engage BECs at close range

"Voennaya Khronika" pointed out the absence of "Sapsan-E" containers on some aircraft

Russian Su-30SM fighters of the Black Sea Fleet's Naval Aviation are actively engaging uncrewed boats (BECs), but pilots are forced to hit targets at direct visual contact range. This was pointed out by analysts of the Telegram channel "Voennaya Khronika".

They drew attention to the absence of T/220 and "Sapsan-E" containerized multispectral optoelectronic systems on these combat aircraft. This equipment is present in "Sushkas" supplied abroad.

Also, Kh-38MT, Kh-39LMUR, or UR-305UD tactical missiles are not used.

Military analysts warned that in such a scenario, fighter crews could be within range of R-73RMD-2 or AIM-9M anti-aircraft missiles, which BECs might be equipped with.

Major General Vladimir Popov suggested that in the future, Su-30SM could operate in conjunction with the latest S-70 "Okhotnik" drones, but tactical aviation would still remain human-controlled.
