The "Ural" Automobile Plant (Miass, Chelyabinsk Oblast) has revealed the fate of the new "Ural-80" model. According to the plant's CEO, Pavel Yakovlev, serial production of the truck began last year, but it cannot be freely purchased from dealers – all vehicles are distributed through direct contracts with government agencies and corporate customers. Of the 200 vehicles assembled in 2025, 95 have been transferred to the EMERCOM and are already operating as fire trucks, Wroom.ru reports.
The key technical difference from the "Ural Next" family is the four-cylinder turbodiesel YaMZ-535 with a volume of 5.1 liters and a power of 240 horsepower. The rejection of the inline "six" allowed for a complete redesign of the layout: the hood became shorter, the cabin was moved forward, freeing up useful space for superstructures and the flatbed platform. The total weight of the vehicle is 13.3 tons, and the payload capacity in the flatbed version reaches 5.5 tons. The transmission retained the proprietary scheme with permanent all-wheel drive, differential locks, and a reduction gear.
In fact, the plant has created a compact all-wheel-drive truck that occupies a niche between light commercial vehicles and heavy "Urals". Initial operation in EMERCOM structures confirms the design's performance in harsh conditions, but the timing of the model's appearance in free sale has not yet been announced.
The "Ural-80" has a conventional cab layout, but for its combination of qualities (off-road capability, maneuverability, and power), it is called the successor to the Soviet "GAZ-66".
