A resident of the Tatarstan IT Park has developed a dating app called Zawajy (translated as "My Marriage"). The project aims to combine modern technologies with traditional Islamic values, the Ministry of Digital Development of the Republic reported. The developers intend to attract about 85 million rubles of foreign investment to enter the markets of Muslim countries.
The creators of the service took into account the shortcomings of conventional dating platforms. In their opinion, women in typical dating apps often feel unprotected, and the ability to invite relatives to participate in choosing a spouse is absent there. Zawajy allows connecting family and friends to the process. Chatting with a candidate is blocked if there is no third participant in the conversation.
The profile settings include "Islamic filters": level of religious practice, desired level of adherence to traditions, attitude towards Sunnah, and other parameters. Profiles contain detailed information about the goals of acquaintance, life values, education, profession, and expectations from a future spouse.
Each profile undergoes manual moderation, and photos are verified to exclude fake pages. Currently, more than 20,000 active users are registered on the platform. The app has a paid subscription that provides additional "Likes," shows who is interested in the profile, and connects artificial intelligence for partner matching.
The service is planned to be adapted to the cultural characteristics of the Persian Gulf countries, as well as Southeast and Central Asia.
