The first commercial batch of the revived Volga brand, as reported by "AvtoKult", will be released in a special First Edition version. This usually refers to initial series for first buyers – often with special styling, enhanced equipment, or the status of a "first batch".
This approach is well-known in the automotive market. For example, when BMW launched the X5 M and X6 M in the Russian market, it released a limited First Edition series – 25 units each, and these were the most expensive versions of the models. They featured the Competition trim: a more powerful engine, special body colors, black wheels, carbon fiber side mirror housings, and a carbon fiber spoiler.
In the case of Volga, the main details are still kept secret: how exactly the First Edition will differ from regular trims and how much these cars will cost has not yet been officially disclosed.
The new Volga itself is an attempt to relaunch one of the most recognizable automotive brands in Russia in a modern format. The project is being handled by AO "Proizvodstvo legkovykh avtomobiley" (Passenger Car Production JSC), which owns the exclusive rights to the brand. Production of the cars is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026 in Nizhny Novgorod, at a site where Volkswagen and Skoda cars were previously produced under contract.
Initially, three models are announced for Volga: a large D-SUV segment crossover, a C-SUV crossover, and a D-class sedan. These are the Volga K50, Volga K40, and Volga C50 models.
The flagship K50 has already been officially shown as a large crossover with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 238 hp, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive; sales of this model are expected to begin in the summer of 2026.
According to automotive publications, the Volga C50 should be a D-class sedan: it was specified with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine in 150 hp and 200 hp versions, front-wheel drive, and a 7-speed robotic gearbox. The Volga K40 is a C-class crossover.
However, the new Volga will not enter an empty segment. The Russian market already has the Lada Aura in the niche of a more prestigious sedan – cars for those who need a spacious vehicle with an emphasis on passenger comfort. The Lada Azimut is being prepared as a new Russian crossover with modern equipment and could become one of the competitors in the mass SUV segment. "Moskvich", in turn, is already represented in the urban crossover and sedan segments.
