The Ministry of Education has warned about a new scheme targeting schoolchildren and their parents. As reported by TASS in the ministry's press service, fraudsters call graduates posing as school staff or examination board members and, under the pretext of EGE registration, extort a code from an SMS. The obtained code gives them unauthorized access to electronic diaries, the Gosuslugi portal, and banking applications.
The scheme exploits students' trust in official institutions. Scammers take advantage of the fact that during the examination period, students and their parents expect calls from school and are inclined to comply with requests without unnecessary checks. Once they obtain the code, the fraudsters gain access to personal accounts and can withdraw funds or take out loans.
The Ministry of Education emphasized that it never requests data confirmation by phone. In case of a suspicious call, one should immediately end the conversation, call their school or the official hotline, and then report the incident to law enforcement agencies.
