The "black" wing of the MC-21 withstood a load 2.5 times higher than the norm

Aviation expert Artyom Kirillov: the structure maintained its bearing capacity

The new composite wing of the MC-21 aircraft withstood loads exceeding the design loads by 150% during tests at TsAGI. This was reported by aviation expert Artyom Kirillov in an article on the development of domestic composite technologies.

According to him, the structure maintained its bearing capacity even under an impact that was 2.5 times higher than the normative parameters.

Such a result refers not only to the properties of the fiber, but also to the processing technology, binder parameters, and layer stacking scheme.

Kirillov clarified that the wing structure uses UMT series carbon fibers. They are used in the most loaded elements — the wing caisson, center section, and mechanization.

Production was organized at the AeroKompozit site in Ulyanovsk using vacuum infusion technology.
