"Severomorsk" Arrives Off German Coast After Statements on Tanker Protection

Kn-Online: Project 1155 Large Anti-Submarine Ship Replaced Missile Corvette "Stavropol" Off Fehmarn

The Project 1155 large anti-submarine ship "Severomorsk" was spotted off the coast of Germany in the Baltic Sea. This was reported by the German newspaper Kieler Nachrichten.

According to the newspaper, the ship is located between the island of Fehmarn and Lübeck Bay. There, it replaced the small missile ship "Stavropol", which had been in the area since late April.

German analysts link the presence of the Russian large anti-submarine ship with discussions about the possible escort of merchant ships by the Russian Navy. Earlier, Russian Ambassador Artyom Bulatov stated that Moscow was considering options to strengthen the protection of Russian-flagged vessels in the Baltic Sea.

Options are being considered to strengthen the physical protection of Russian-flagged vessels. The option of escorting the merchant fleet by Russian Navy ships remains.

"Severomorsk" returned to service after repairs in Kronstadt in 2024. The ship received updated weapon systems, including the Kinzhal shipborne anti-aircraft missile system.

Earlier, the head of the Maritime Board, Nikolay Patrushev, reported that a Russian frigate had escorted tankers through the English Channel. According to him, Russia is ready to take additional measures to protect its shipping.
