Germans tried to steal technology of domestic MLRS

The cunning recipe for gunpowder for "Katyusha" did not go to Germany

German specialists unsuccessfully tried to copy the Soviet BM-13 "Katyusha" multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) during the Great Patriotic War. This was stated by Vladimir Koshlakov, General Director of the Keldysh Research Center.

According to him, Germany tried to reproduce several machines, but achieved nothing. They never reproduced the gunpowder recipe in the shells and could not achieve the range of the Soviet weapon.

The effect that "Katyusha" had on the enemy and on the foe led not only to confusion, to panic, everyone scattered in disarray.

The MLRS could fire 24 shells in 16 seconds, and reloading took about 2-3 minutes. By the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, six experimental BM-13s had been assembled in the USSR. The installation on the chassis of a ZIS-6 three-axle truck carried rail guides for M-13 rockets of 132 mm caliber.

The firing range of "Katyusha" exceeded 8 km. Subsequently, the USSR launched mass production of BM-13 on various chassis.
