Sri Lanka has shown interest in Russian medical technologies and equipment. This includes not only supplies but also broader cooperation – from training doctors to developing medical tourism. This was announced by Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko following his working visit to the republic.
Murashko held talks with Sri Lankan Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalin de Silva. The parties discussed cooperation in healthcare, medical education and science, as well as the recognition of diplomas and the expansion of specialist training, including residency programs.
At the same time, Murashko and de Silva touched upon issues of access to quality medical care, medicines, and medical equipment for residents of both countries.
The head of the Russian Ministry of Health noted that next year will mark 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries and 50 years since the signing of the trade agreement. According to him, there is potential for growth in trade, including in the field of medical products.
He emphasized that Russia is ready to offer reliable and competitive medical devices for diagnosing various diseases. Early diagnosis of infectious and non-infectious diseases remains one of the strong areas of Russian medicine.
In addition, prospects for medical tourism were discussed. From 2021 to 2025, 26.3 thousand patients from Sri Lanka received medical care in Russia. According to the minister, medical tourism in the country is growing annually both in terms of the number of foreign patients and financial indicators.
