The Far East consumes more and more: Primorye may install 250 MW storage facilities

New generation facilities and power lines are being built in parallel

The Russian Ministry of Energy is considering the possibility of installing electricity storage systems in Primorsky Krai with a capacity of about 250 MW. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Energy Pyotr Konyushenko.

The decision is related to the rapid growth of energy consumption in the Far East. According to the department, the growth rates here are more than twice the Russian average, with an annual increase of about 4.5%.

Under these conditions, the Ministry of Energy is working on several directions at once – from extending the service life of existing power plants to building new facilities. These include the Zabaykalskaya TPP with a capacity of 1.05 GW, a DC line between Siberia and Zabaykalye, and the development of network infrastructure in Primorye.

Special attention is paid to energy storage systems. Such installations allow smoothing out peak loads and increasing the stability of the energy system. According to Konyushenko, the project in Primorye can be implemented within a year.

Similar solutions are already being implemented in other regions. In southern Russia, 100 MW storage facilities are being built in Crimea and 250 MW in Krasnodar Krai. In the latter case, the system is expected to be launched in the near future.

The Ministry of Energy notes that such projects are cheaper than traditional generation and allow for a faster response to the growth of electricity demand.
