Former AvtoVAZ engineer and blogger KhaDm published a photo of an unusual tuning project — a Moskvich-407 fitted with a Daewoo Matiz interior.
I never even thought that these cars were so close in dimensions.
The Moskvich-407 was produced from 1958 to 1963. The car was equipped with a 1.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine producing 45 hp (later 50 hp) and a 4-speed manual transmission. The car was 4055 mm long, 1540 mm wide, 1500 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2370 mm. Top speed was 115 km/h.
The Daewoo Matiz is a compact city car produced since 1998. Its length is 3495 mm, width is 1495 mm, and wheelbase is 2340 mm. The dimensions of the two cars turned out to be unexpectedly close: the difference in length is about 55 cm, in width just 4.5 cm, and in wheelbase 3 cm.
Thanks to this, the front seats and dashboard from the Matiz fit into the Moskvich body with minimal modification. Such projects usually require reworking the mountings, adjusting the steering system and wiring, but overall the Soviet and Korean platforms turned out to be compatible.
