Russian high-speed rail lines have received a fully domestic solution for onboard power supply. Engineers at OOO "TransEnergo" have completed preparations for the serial production of battery power units at manufacturing sites in Tyumen and Yekaterinburg. The power units will ensure the reliable operation of all non-traction systems of the electric train.
The new batteries take over the power supply for control, communications, lighting, and fire protection systems. The key difference is full localization: from pure lead for the electrodes to impact-resistant plastic for the casings. All materials and components are produced in Russia, which removes the risks of import dependence and simplifies servicing throughout the entire life cycle.
The power unit is designed as a sealed metal container mounted under the train body. Inside is a modular system: twelve-volt cells are assembled into pull-out trays and grouped into two parallel circuits.
The total capacity of one unit is 380 Ah. The design ensures the operability of onboard electronics even when the main power supply is disconnected and facilitates maintenance: equipment can be replaced without dismantling the entire device.
Before serial production began, prototype units underwent a full testing cycle at a test and inspection station. The batteries were tested in thermal chambers at extreme temperatures and on vibration test benches simulating the loads of high-speed movement. Based on the test results, the products confirmed compliance with the stringent requirements for HSR rolling stock.
