Russia Sends Submarine to Indonesia Amid Plans to Deploy Tu-95MS and Tu-160

The diesel-electric submarine "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" (Project 636.3 "Varshavyanka"), the corvette "Gromky" (Project 20380), and the sea tug "Andrey Stepanov" (Project 23470) practiced joint maneuvering with the Indonesian Navy in the Java Sea. This visit is interesting against the backdrop of media reports about Russia's plans to deploy long-range aviation at the republic's airfields.

The ships docked in Tanjung Priok port on March 29. In a statement dated March 31, the Indonesian Navy called the visit a symbol of strengthening defense ties between the armed forces of the two countries.

The presence of three warships of the Russian Federation in Jakarta is not just a port call, but a powerful symbol of bilateral relations.

The Indonesian publication Janes reported that the republic's authorities received a request from Russia to deploy long-range aircraft at the Manuhua airbase on Biak Island, northwest of New Guinea. The Russian side has not made any statements on this matter.

As a reminder, long-range aviation includes missile carriers Tu-160, Tu-95, and Tu-22M3. The development of the promising bomber PAK DA is also underway, but there is no concrete news about its status yet.
