Dmitry Patrushev: Increased performance ensured for some rare metals

In 2025, new lithium reserves, a crucial component of the high-tech industry, were discovered in Russia for the first time in more than 20 years. This was announced by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at a meeting of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use.

According to him, the mining industry has increased performance for some rare metals.

And for the first time in more than 20 years, new lithium reserves, an integral component of the high-tech industry, have been discovered. All this is very important from the point of view of ensuring the resource independence of our country. Therefore, of course, the achieved pace must be maintained.

Balance reserves of lithium oxide in Russia amount to 3.5 million tons, the Ministry of Natural Resources specified. This is enough to meet the needs of the Russian economy.

In early March 2026, Russia resumed lithium mining after a 30-year hiatus. Pilot production at the Kolmozerskoye deposit in the Murmansk region was launched by a joint venture between Rosatom and Nornickel — the company "Polar Lithium."
