According to him, the development of the icebreaker fleet and port infrastructure in the country continues.

Today, we are the only country with a unique fleet in the Arctic. It consists of 43 icebreakers: 8 nuclear and 35 diesel-electric.

In February, Russian media reported that the work of the northwestern ports of Russia was virtually paralyzed. Rapid ice growth and a shortage of icebreakers created an export collapse of metal products and fertilizers.

In the context of an acute shortage of icebreakers, the piloting of one vessel took up to 12 hours. Increasing the number of nuclear fleet will help solve this problem.

Earlier it became known that the icebreaker "Admiral Makarov" of project R-1039 will not sail without engine repairs for 165 million rubles. The contractor has not yet been found, but the work must be completed by December 23, 2026.
