In Russia, it is necessary to set the task of building Tu-214s in hundreds, the aircraft is in no way inferior to Western airliners in reliability and consists entirely of domestic components. This point of view was voiced by Yuri Sytnik, an honored pilot of Russia.
He recalled that the Tu-214 was originally built entirely by Russia from the first to the last bolt. The reliability of Tupolev aircraft is also beyond doubt, in general they do not differ in reliability from American airliners, Sytnik emphasized.
But to replace them, it is necessary to restore factories with well-established production cycles in Ulyanovsk, Samara, Saratov and Smolensk. Each of them should produce about 20 aircraft annually so that Russia receives about a hundred wings a year.
Executive Director of the RKK-Nauka trade union Yuri Zakharchenko warned that the Tu-214 may no longer regain its former popularity among airlines accustomed to flying Airbus and Boeing.
As of the end of March 2026, the Kazan Aviation Plant has not started mass production of Tu-214 airliners, although it received a type certificate back in December 2025.
