Kazan Aviation Plant Has Not Started Mass Production of Tu-214, Despite Promises

Type certificate for the aircraft was issued in December 2025

As of mid-March 2026, the Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ, part of PJSC "Tupolev") has not started mass production of Tu-214 aircraft. This was reported by the local publication 116.ru.

In December 2025, the updated Tu-214 received a type certificate, paving the way for the mass production of aircraft. At that time, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Anton Alikhanov, stated that mass production would start in 2026.

However, this has not yet been achieved. To date, the Kazan Aviation Plant has produced only one completely new and completely domestic machine.

As part of a large-scale renovation, a mechanical processing center was built at the Kazan Aviation Plant. The technical re-equipment of production workshops is in full swing, and the construction of three logistics centers for storing materials and components is nearing completion. Against this background, KAZ also announced a mass recruitment of workers.

Executive Director of the RKK-Nauka professional association, Yuri Zakharchenko, warned that the Tu-214, revived in Kazan, may not regain its former popularity among domestic airlines, which are accustomed to flying Airbus and Boeing.
