On the Moscow and Baltic lines, category "Standard" trains have appeared instead of the high-speed "Lastochka" electric trains. This was reported by the press service of Oktyabrskaya Railway (OZhD).
The carrier's press service explained that such measures were taken in order to carry out scheduled technical maintenance on some high-speed trainsets. Replacing "Lastochkas" with regular trains will help avoid disruptions to the timetable.
The day before, passengers complained about old commuter trains from St. Petersburg to Tosno. At the same time, tickets had been purchased for more expensive seats on the "Lastochkas".
About the "Lastochkas"
The electric trains were developed on the basis of the German Desiro platform. They are produced at the "Uralskiye Lokomotivy" plant (a joint venture of Siemens and the STM Group). In the spring of 2022, the German company left Russia.
In 2023, the "Uralskiye Lokomotivy" plant built the first fully Russian "Lastochka." The ES104-001 electric train became more comfortable compared with the non-localized version.
