A notable event has taken place in the segment of collectible Russian-made cars: two examples of the GAZ-3111 equipped with a 2.7-liter Toyota 3RZ-FE gasoline engine have been put up for sale simultaneously. According to archival data from the Gorky Automobile Plant, only 424 vehicles of the 3111 model were assembled between 2000 and 2004, while the version with the Japanese power unit, according to expert estimates, numbers no more than 15 units.
The 3RZ-FE engine, borrowed from a Toyota platform, gave the GAZ-3111 an output of about 150 hp and improved reliability compared with domestic counterparts of that period. However, integrating the foreign unit required adaptation of the cooling, exhaust, and electronic control systems, which later made servicing such cars more complicated.
The first example, painted white and registered in Stavropol Krai, is valued by its owner at 1.5 million rubles. The 2001 car has a declared mileage of 160,000 km. The second sedan, presented in green and located in Moscow, belongs to the 2002 model year and has covered 89,000 km; its price is 1.6 million rubles, which corresponds to the market level for cars of such rarity.
The original body design of the GAZ-3111, despite its visual appeal, creates significant difficulties during restoration: individual body panels and interior elements may take several years to find. Inside, the car demonstrates a contrasting set of solutions: on the one hand, there are heated washer nozzles and an onboard computer; on the other, it retains the archaic rear leaf-spring suspension characteristic of earlier GAZ models.
