Supplies of Russian sawn timber to India by the end of 2025 increased 2.6-fold — to 156 thousand cubic meters. This is stated in a report by the analytical company Lesprom Network.
The growth came amid a decline in exports to China, the key sales market. Shipments to the PRC fell by 8% and amounted to 11.2 million cubic meters.
The reason is the crisis in the construction sector and the drop in real estate sales to their lowest levels since 2009. Additional pressure is created by competition from Canada, which has sharply increased exports to China.
Total sawn timber exports from Russia in 2025 reached about 24 million cubic meters, increasing by 5%, while production declined to 36.3 million cubic meters. The largest players in the industry are Segezha Group, ULK Group, and others.
Market analysts link the sharp increase in supplies to India with active housing construction and a timber shortage on the country’s domestic market. The forecast for 2026 is a further increase in exports to 220–400 thousand cubic meters.
