The entry into service of the turboprop passenger aircraft Il-114-300 is capable of filling the niche of regional transportation and strengthening the transport connectivity of remote areas, according to Dmitry Evdokimov, a researcher at the Presidential Academy.
According to him, the aircraft is designed for short and medium-haul routes with low load, where the use of more spacious aircraft is economically unprofitable.
This is an aircraft for a specific regional network. It is suitable for routes with low passenger traffic and helps to develop communication with remote settlements.
Evdokimov added that the turboprop configuration allows reducing operating costs on short routes. Against the background of the gradual withdrawal of old regional aircraft, the new aircraft could become the basis for updating aircraft fleets and expanding interregional flights.
Managing Director of JSC "Il" Daniil Brenerman noted that the Il-114-300 has aroused great interest among foreign buyers, but the primary task is to meet the needs of the domestic aviation market. It is expected that the first contracts for the supply of aircraft will be signed on Defender of the Fatherland Day - February 23.
