Robinson Helicopter on Altai Ice: Prosecutor's Office Checks Landing at an Altitude of 2,500 m

An extreme flight to Belukha for hockey on a frozen body of water has raised questions about compliance with aviation regulations

The Gorno-Altai Transport Prosecutor's Office has initiated a check of compliance with flight safety standards following the publication of a video showing a Robinson helicopter landing on the frozen surface of a body of water in the Altai Republic.

The incident occurred at the foot of Mount Belukha at an altitude of 2,500 meters, where Novosibirsk photographer Vadim Makhorov and pilot Andrei Melnikov organized an impromptu hockey match on the ice.

The main difficulty was finding a place free of snow. They reached the required point by Robinson helicopter. The photos show that they managed to find an ideal landing spot — a frozen body of water at the foot of the mountain at an altitude of 2,500 meters.

Landing in high mountains requires taking into account wind loads, ice thickness, and the limitations of the Robinson helicopter, designed for light operations but vulnerable in extreme conditions.
