Uzbekistan has banned the operation and re-registration of cars manufactured more than 50 years ago. The restriction applies to cars produced before 1976, Motor.ru reported earlier. Preliminary, the law will affect about 88 thousand vehicles from the country's total fleet of 5.2 million cars.
In parallel, the authorities of the republic are introducing a special status for historically valuable cars. Cars recognized as "antique" will receive distinctive license plates of the ANT series. To obtain this status, the vehicle must be in satisfactory external condition and retain the key units corresponding to the year of manufacture and model.
Thus, owners of old cars will be able to either withdraw them from operation or, if they meet strict criteria, register them as antiques for limited use.
