The mobile launcher for the intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) "Oreshnik" is mounted on the chassis of the Yars road-mobile ground-based missile system. This was reported by military analyst and editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko.
According to him, Russia's main task is to possess a guaranteed retaliatory strike potential thanks to road-mobile ground-based missile systems.
In particular, we are talking about the Yars road-mobile ground-based missile system. And, by the way, the Oreshnik is mounted on the same chassis. It will also be invulnerable in deployment areas.
Korotchenko suggested that after the termination of the Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms, Russia should expand production of the Oreshnik missile system.
There has so far been no official information about the chassis of the Oreshnik launchers. It is known that the Yars is based on the eight-axle MZKT-79221 platform.
However, military experts, analyzing footage from Belarus in March 2025, suggested that in the case of the IRBM, it could be the more compact six-axle MZKT-79291 chassis, which was previously used for the Rubezh system.
