At the Avtovo depot of the St. Petersburg Metro, the first stage of preparation has been completed for the six-car Baltiets electric train intended for operation on the second line (Moskovsko-Petrogradskaya line). The trainset has completed a full cycle of bench tests, including diagnostics of traction electrical equipment, control systems, the braking complex, and auxiliary circuits. According to the press service of the St. Petersburg Metro state unitary enterprise, after successfully passing laboratory tests, the rolling stock was transferred to pre-operation trial running mode in the interstation tunnels.
One of the first Baltiets units has already been integrated into the schedule of test runs on an operating section of the line. At the same time, the manufacturing company continues assembling two additional six-car trains of the same modification, which will also be assigned to serve the second line of the metro system of Russia's Northern Capital.
The rolling stock renewal is being carried out as part of a long-term metro modernization program. According to the approved plan, by 2030 the company's fleet will be expanded with 950 new cars of various models, making it possible to fully replace obsolete Soviet-era units, both morally and physically, and increase the capacity of key lines.
