One Tu-214 Will Be Assembled in 12 Days: Ministers Assess Modernization of Kazan Aviation Plant

Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov and Head of the Ministry of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov personally assessed the progress of modernization of the Kazan Aviation Plant named after S.P. Gorbunov — a branch of PJSC Tupolev (part of UAC Rostec).

The delegation inspected the Tu-214 aggregate assembly shops, the central kitting warehouse, the mechanical processing and preform-stamping production shops, where new high-performance equipment is being installed, as well as new warehouses of the modern logistics center.

The plant management demonstrated projects to improve production efficiency. "Before/after" photos showed improvements to industrial sites through the introduction of lean manufacturing tools. Pilot approaches are planned to be replicated at all UAC enterprises.

Alikhanov noted that work with the competence center and the agency for the development of professional skills will reduce the Tu-214 fuselage assembly cycle to 12 days and produce up to 20 aircraft per year. These results have been achieved through the renewal of basic production assets, the construction of new buildings and the application of lean manufacturing.

Reshetnikov emphasized the importance of robotization, automation and the introduction of a continuous flow format, ensuring timely delivery of components from suppliers. In the future, this approach is planned to be extended to shipbuilding, energy and the space industry.

The ministers were also informed about the Tu-214 fuselage takt assembly project and the digital model of the AOS-2 shop with simulation modeling, including analysis of bottlenecks and a plan for transitioning to a new system of work to achieve the required production volumes.

Vadim Badeha, General Director of PJSC United Aircraft Corporation, noted that improving efficiency using lean manufacturing, automation and digital solutions is important for the serial production of civil aviation equipment and will be implemented at all UAC sites.

The visit concluded with the first offsite meeting of the coordination headquarters for improving labor productivity with the participation of the Agency for the Development of Professional Skills, the industry competence center of Rosatom State Corporation, and federal and regional competence centers.
