Russian Civil Aviation Industry Forecast Developed Until 2050

Zhukovsky Research Center Identifies Key Technologies and Challenges for the Industry for the Next Three Decades

The Federal State Budgetary Institution "Research Center 'Zhukovsky Institute'" has completed the development of a strategic document — "Forecast of the Development of Science and Technology in Civil Aviation in Russia for the Period up to 2050." The document was prepared on the basis of a systematic analysis of global and national trends, as well as the results of research carried out within the framework of the state assignment.

The relevance of the new forecast is due to the cardinal changes that have occurred over the past 10–15 years: large-scale applied developments in Russia and abroad, clarification of the scope of new technologies, tightening of ICAO requirements and, in particular, the consequences of sanctions pressure from leading aircraft manufacturing powers.

The forecast is intended to become the basis for the formation of a long-term strategy and action plans for the development of civil aviation and aircraft construction in the Russian Federation. It identifies key challenges and priorities for the short term (until 2030), medium term (until 2040) and long term (until 2050). Special attention is paid to the creation of a comprehensive scientific and technical reserve, ensuring the development of aviation technology of the next technological order.

The document takes into account both the global patterns of industry development and the specifics of the Russian aviation industry, including internal barriers and national interests. Cross-cutting technologies are also highlighted, applicable not only in various classes of aviation equipment, but also outside the aviation industry.

The forecast formulates the directions of fundamental and exploratory research necessary to ensure technological sovereignty, improve the quality of transport services in the country and achieve global leadership in the long term.
