"Mechel" Launches Production of 100-Meter Rails for Freight Trains and High-Speed Railways up to 400 km/h

The plant has certified four new types of rails resistant to -60 °C and loads of 150 million tonne-kilometers

Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMP, part of the Mechel Group) in 2025 mastered the production and received certificates of compliance for four new types of railway rails up to 100 meters long, designed for high-speed railways (HSR) and sections with heavy traffic. This was reported by the company's press service.

The certification confirmed that the products meet the requirements of GOST R and the technical regulations of the Customs Union. The list includes rails of grades Р65 ДТ350ВС400, Р65ДТ350ВС, Р65ДТ370 and Р65ДТ370ИК. Their design is designed for operation at speeds up to 400 km/h and is resistant to extreme temperatures — down to minus 60 °C.

The tests were carried out in two stages: first in laboratory conditions, then at the full-scale test site of JSC "VNIIZhT". The samples withstood a load equivalent to 150 million tonne-kilometers of cargo, which confirmed their durability and reliability. Representatives of JSC "Russian Railways" participated in the acceptance tests.

In parallel, ChMP underwent recertification of OR65 switch rails used in turnouts.

Igor Khafizov, General Director of PJSC "Mechel", said that expanding the range of rail products will provide customers — both Russian Railways and concessionaires of infrastructure projects — with comprehensive solutions for all types of railway sections: from heavily loaded freight corridors to high-speed lines. According to him, the company plans to further increase the range of rails in order to fully meet the market's needs for high-tech and high-quality products.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Novotexreil launched mass production of a new 15-3217 tank car for petroleum products.
