The Indian government is in no hurry to sign a contract for the localization of Su-57 fighter production in the republic and is expecting a detailed report from the Russian side on the cost of such a project. This was reported by sources of The Indian Express.
Preliminarily, in January the local company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will receive full data from Russian suppliers on the implementation of the project. The parties will then jointly make a decision on the prospects for production of the aircraft in India.
According to the source, the Russian group includes representatives of the Sukhoi Design Bureau and other defense enterprises. At the end of 2025, they sent the Indian partners a document that emphasized that the republic has about 50% of the necessary infrastructure for the production of the Su-57.
Let us recall that India already produced Su-30MKI fighters under a Russian license. Probably, part of the production capacity will be used in the Su-57 project.
Aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "First Technical" why localization of the Su-57 in India will become beneficial for Russia.
