According to aviation expert Roman Gusarov, it may take about ten years to completely replace foreign aircraft in the Russian civil aviation fleet with domestic counterparts.
Gusarov noted that the production of the promising medium-range airliner MC-21 already unites the efforts of about 15,000 enterprises throughout the country, each of which is responsible for the production of individual components and systems. However, for sustainable import substitution, he believes it is necessary to establish the production of at least 50 Russian aircraft annually.
It takes time to accelerate them. If we accelerate, then we will have about 10 more years to smoothly, calmly rotate our fleet, completely replace foreign aircraft with our domestic ones. In terms of age, there are still many Western aircraft that do not need to be written off today, they can still fly calmly for 10 years. But it is necessary to produce at least 50-60 aircraft annually in order to truly replace these aircraft with imports in 10 years.
The expert emphasized that only with such a production rate will it be possible not only to meet the current needs of airlines, but also to ensure fleet renewal in the long term.
