The crew of the Buk-M3 surface-to-air missile system (SAM) managed to intercept GMLRS guided rockets from the American HIMARS multiple launch rocket system. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defence.
A member of the crew noted that the system is so versatile that it is impossible to hide from it.
We successfully shoot down the targets we need to engage. Because it sees everything; its detection range is so great that it can simultaneously track up to six targets at once.
Military expert Evgeny Damantsev pointed out that the 9A317M self-propelled firing launchers now have six transport-launch containers with surface-to-air missiles instead of two.
This indicates an increase in the production intensity of the 9M317M surface-to-air missiles, and that is encouraging.
Let us recall that the Buk-M3 system was developed at the V. Tikhomirov NIIP on the basis of the Buk-M2. Production of the system began in 2016.
The Buk-M3 engages aerial targets flying at speeds of up to 3 km/s, at altitudes of up to 35 km and at ranges of up to 70 km. The system intercepts cruise missiles and maneuvering aerial targets with a high probability.
