In Russia, a torpedo-shaped underwater drone for the Navy has been devised

Engineers have patented a modular design with a dual propeller

Specialists from the Black Sea Higher Naval School named after P. S. Nakhimov have patented an autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle for the Russian Navy. The unmanned system is proposed to be made in the shape of a torpedo and built according to a modular scheme; the documents were published in the FIPS database.

According to the concept, the vehicle is intended for use in shipbuilding and may be used in the creation of underwater drones with improved propulsion characteristics and reduced energy consumption.

The key difference of the development is the hydrodynamic shape of the hull, which reduces water resistance and increases range. The technical result is achieved through the modular architecture and hydrodynamic shape, as stated in the utility model description.

The vehicle's design includes a propulsion module, a control and communications module, battery and nose modules. This solution simplifies maintenance, modernization, and adaptation for various tasks, from reconnaissance to engineering work.

The developers paid special attention to the propulsion unit. The underwater drone received two counter-rotating propellers and two sequentially arranged electric motors, which increases the efficiency of the blade propulsor by 10–12%.
