We will switch to weapons used in the West, to the NATO caliber, which gives us access to the logistics base, ammunition, and spare parts.
Anatolie Nosatii, Minister of Defence

According to him, 4-5 units have already abandoned the AK, including the General Staff regiment and the Military Academy.

A Defence Strategy until 2034 has been adopted in Chisinau, which provides for cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as an increase in defence spending to 1% of GDP by 2030. Moldova has neutral status, but has been a partner of the bloc since 1994.

According to open sources, the Armed Forces of Moldova still use AK-74s, as well as AKM and AKMS assault rifles of Soviet and Romanian production.
