Deadly "Berezhok": the combat module for the BMP-2 and BTR-90 will become even more dangerous

The gunner's sight was enclosed in an armored casing

The Academician A. G. Shipunov Design Bureau of Instrument Engineering patented an updated design of a combat module for light combat vehicles. The development is aimed at increasing the level of armor protection and expanding the module's combat capabilities; the patent appeared in the FIPS database.

Based on the combination of features and the presented image, it can be concluded that this concerns the further development of the "Berezhok" or "Bereg" system. According to the concept, the combat module is mounted on the vehicle chassis and covered by an armored cupola with a weapons suite.

It includes an automatic cannon, a coaxial machine gun mounted in a rotating mantlet, a launcher with missiles, and the gunner's sight. Around the perimeter of the cupola, the developers envisaged armored screens, while in the frontal part additional screens were added, overlapping them and extending up to the roof.

A separate trapezoidal armored screen is planned to be placed at a distance from the launcher, thereby increasing the protection of the missile armament. The gunner's sight was enclosed in an armored casing in the shape of a multifaceted truncated pyramid with windows for the eyepieces, reducing the vulnerability of the optics.

Let us recall that the B05Ya01 "Berezhok" module is intended for the deep modernization of the BMP-1, BMP-2, and BTR-90. Thanks to the "Kornet" missiles, the crew will be able to destroy tanks even with explosive reactive armor at ranges of up to 8-10 km. The "Bereg" combat module is intended for the BMD-2M.

At the same time, with sufficient ingenuity, the "Berezhok" is even installed on tanks. For example, this was done in the Algerian army, where the module was fitted to half-century-old Soviet T-62s.
