The Algerian army has significantly modified half-century-old Soviet T-62 tanks, turning them into tank support fighting vehicles (BMPT), footage appeared on social networks.
The B05Ya01 "Berezhok" combat modules were installed on the T-62, replacing the traditional gun - a 115-mm smooth-bore semi-automatic U-5TS gun (2A20).
The T-62, weighing 37 tons, was adopted by the USSR in 1961. Initially, tanks of this version were equipped with V-shaped diesel engines with a capacity of 580 hp.
Later they were replaced with more powerful V-46-5M with a capacity of 690 hp, which allowed them to accelerate to 27 km/h on "dirt roads", as well as up to 50 km/h on highways.
The basic version of the "Berezhok" includes a 30-mm 2A42 automatic cannon, a 30-mm AG-30M automatic grenade launcher, a 7.62-mm PKTM machine gun, and two launchers for Kornet anti-tank guided missiles.
The Russian army is armed with serial BMPTs - "Terminator" based on the T-90A with two 30-mm automatic cannons, anti-tank missiles and a machine gun.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Tula defense enterprises increased shipments by 50% since the beginning of 2025.
