International naval exercises involving some "BRICS+" countries will be held from January 9 to 16, 2026, off the coast of the Republic of South Africa (RSA). This was reported by the press service of the South African Ministry of Defense and Military Veterans.
The purpose of the maneuvers, named Will For Peace 2026, is to prepare joint operations to ensure maritime security and to practice interoperability, the defense department added. China is in charge of managing the exercises.
The South African Ministry of Defense did not specify which countries would participate. However, the News 24 news portal previously reported that the maneuvers would involve ships from the Russian Navy, the Iranian Navy, Indonesia, and Ethiopia. The BRICS group currently includes 10 countries, including Russia, India, the UAE, Egypt, Brazil, and others.
