According to the updated forecast, the passenger traffic of Russian airlines is expected to reach 107.5 million people by the end of 2025. This is 3.8% less than last year, Veronika Khodyreva, Head of the Department of State Policy in the Field of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transport, said at a meeting in the Federation Council.
According to her, there is a general trend associated with a decrease in the volume of traffic.
If at the beginning of the year we predicted a traffic volume of 109.7 million passengers by the end of 2025, then at the moment we assume that it will be somewhere around 107.5 million.
Khodyreva explained that the revision of the forecast is due to the logical retirement of the fleet due to technical condition and the lack of aircraft deliveries and the possibility of replenishing the fleet, taking into account sanctions restrictions.
Foreign aircraft manufactured by Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer remain the main means of transporting passengers for Russian airlines, the Association of Air Transport Operators noted in a letter to the Ministry of Transport.
New MC-21 and Superjet aircraft are being built in Russia to replace them, but both aircraft are still undergoing certification. Apparently, carriers will not receive them in 2026 either.
