New tram line appears in Moscow

Mayor Sobyanin opens route between Belorussky and Rizhsky railway stations

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has opened a new tram line located on Trifonovskaya Street, connecting the Belorussky and Rizhsky railway stations. According to him, the authorities wanted the quietest possible tram to run on this route. To this end, modern low-noise tracks were laid and the "Lionok" tram was launched.

This is the second line with a contactless tram. The first one has been tested and works well, this will be the second one. There will be no need to build power substations, contact lines, which is also very important.

The tram line on Trifonovskaya Street began operating in the early 1930s. For 60 years, it was used by up to 100,000 passengers a day, but in the mid-1990s, traffic was stopped and a bus route was launched instead.

From 2024 to 2025, improvement works were carried out on this street to restore tram traffic. The new 2.1 km double-track route includes new rails, updated sleepers and a new surface. New tracks were also built on Gilyarovsky Street and a turning loop was created near the Rizhskaya metro station. The use of seamless laying technology with rubber seals and vibration-isolating mats has provided a higher level of comfort.
