UEC Proposed a New Way to Build Aircraft Engines Cheaper and Faster

Rotational friction welding should improve the quality of power plant parts

The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) has awarded the winners of the UEC scientific scholarship competition. Students from leading technical universities proposed innovative technological solutions that will reduce the cost of manufactured aircraft engine parts, increase their service life, quality and improve characteristics.

For example, Mikhail Mikheev, a student at Samara University named after S.P. Korolev, proposed a solution to UEC for automating the technological process of rotational friction welding.

He has developed a production line that will reduce the cost and time of manufacturing aircraft engine parts, as well as improve their quality.

Another project by Alsu Yakubova, a student from Samara State Technical University, is aimed at creating a ceramic material for bearings in the hot section of engines.

Ultra-high temperature ceramics will provide resistance to loads and durability of parts due to high hardness, elasticity and good corrosion resistance.

In total, five students became scholarship holders in 2025. The promising technologies for engine building proposed by them can be applied in practice during production, the corporation added.

Prior to this, it became known that "UEC-UMPO" is producing gears of the central conical transmission — the most important parts that affect the operation of the entire engine.

Earlier www1.ru reported that UEC has accelerated the welding of parts for PD-8 and PD-14 engines by 10 times.
