If deliveries and production of "Superjets" begin in India, the domestic SJ-100 aircraft will not become a competitor to Western Boeing and Airbus in this market. This was stated to "Perviy Technicheskiy" by aviation expert Roman Gusarov.
He noted that these Western airlines do not favor aircraft with a capacity of 130 seats. The demand is for more spacious models, such as the 737 Max and A320 Neo.
So they are in different niches. Therefore, the SJ-100 is not a competitor to them, but complements the market in the segment where flying larger aircraft is unprofitable.
Gusarov recalled that Russia is not offering India deliveries of the MC-21, but is considering the "Superjet" and Il-114. The main competitors in this segment are the Brazilian Embraer and the Franco-Italian ATR.
This segment is not as massive as the medium-range segment. Therefore, Boeing and Airbus do not venture there, as it is unprofitable for them. They have the most lucrative parts of the market, where they try not to let anyone in.
The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec) and the Indian company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) are working on organizing the production of the SSJ-100 aircraft in the republic. One of the goals of this cooperation is to supply components produced in India to Russia, explained the head of UAC, Vadim Badeha.
